Virtual BIN Payment Control Architecture
Single-Use Shield Card
Reframed consumer protection from post-payment cancellation to preventive payment control for recurring subscriptions.

At a glance
Designed a Virtual BIN-based payment-control architecture to address recurring subscription charges and dark-pattern risks at the transaction-infrastructure level.
Problem
- Cancellation can depend on each merchant's interface
- Recurring charges continue unless the underlying payment authority is controlled
My role
- Problem reframing
- Payment-control concept
- Proposal design
What I did
- Shifted the intervention point from cancellation to payment authorization
- Defined time, count and amount limits for one subscription
Outcome
- 2026 FSS Financial Competition submission
- 10-page Single-Use Shield Card proposal
Relevant to: Card payments · Payment controls · Consumer protection
Control the payment method, not only the cancellation screen.
Rather than relying on each merchant's cancellation process, the concept places preventive controls inside card and banking services.
The product concept name is “Single-Use Shield Card”: a virtual payment method assigned to one subscription, with user-defined limits for time, count and amount.
- 01Create a virtual payment method
- 02Approve only payments that match the rules
- 03Destroy it whenever the user wants
